Rollercoaster Month
September has been a great month.
MBHMG Achievers Awards
We have finally finshed off the Nominee films for the Merseyside Black History Month Achievers Awards. 13 films that not only showcase the people but their communities.
We have also been working on creating new animated graphics and want to give a big shout out to Aaron McDonald of Keyhole Productions for creating such spectacular work.
Also our surprise touch of producing an original track for Black History Month is developing nice and slowly like a great home brew. Sarah Yule, Roger Davis and Richie Matanda have formed a collaboration under Square One to create "Reflections" in which the music will preview on the Achievers Awards night on Oct 24th along with the films.
Mary HD "A Better DAY"
I don't know if the behind the scenes photos can do actual justice to the film that is hte premier video of Mary HD out of Blackburn. A three day odyssey from Liverpool to Blackburn to West Kirby with the sun on our shoulders every day. It has been truly amazing. Inshallah
Now the hard work truly begins because with each scene being like a movie from the School kids on the playground, special thanks to Beardwood Humanities College to the soldiers in the battlefield, we have set out to truly emphasize the senseless of conflict and how simple it is to make a different choice even with a little help from divine intervention.
OCTOBER is gonna be just as busy
With the Awards and the Culture Food Feast on Oct 24 and 25th
The Half term week brings us The Return of Black Box Theatre - Halloween
Sankofa Days Festival - Black Film History
Another collaboration, Square One Pictures is working with Black Out Productions, Movema and the Nneka Arts Music ensemble to bring a bit of culture, Creative Style, to black History Month.
3 days of Film/Drama, Dance and Music along with the art exhibition work of Peter Ogunsiji which has inspired us all.
Oct 28th, 29th and 30th at the new John Moores Art and Design Academy on Brownlow Hill.
What do you think of or what do you remember when I say the names Sidney Poitier or Gordon Parks. Spike Lee or Robert Townsend. What about films such as Buck and the Preacher or Cotton Comes to Harlem. Its great when kids today know of Will Smith when he makes films like Pursuit of Happyness but what about Laurence fishburne when he makes Higher Learning or Akeela and the Bee. Such is the reason to come check out Sankofa Days on Film - Wed 11-2pm John Moores ADA.
BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Square One Pictures have been extremely busy during black History month.
The Achievers Award Nominee Films
We couldn't say much about the shooting of the nominee acceptance speeches of the Nominees for this year's Achievers awards but we can finally break the silence and reveal that we have shot 13 films in the past 2 months of local community activists and generally stunned City workers who never knew how appreciated they actually were for just doing their jobs. From the local Mental Health liason with the NHS to an OBE Midwife whom feeds West Indian Elders at the the local Nigerian House.
Everyday people from the local shop owner who helps foreign emigres fill in forms to legendary radio presenter James Klass receiving the Legacy Award posthumously. It was a joy to film these splendid and humble individuals. It was our pleasure and in my blog I may discuss more on the process of shooting each film as its own entity to present its own unique identity.
Its finally Official!!!
We are Go for launch as Square One Pictures has got the contract to film the award nominee speeches for the Merseyside Black History Month's Achievers Awards to be displayed at the Crowne Plaza on Oct 24th.
I am enjoying my latest journey with Mary HD. After spotting her on facebook and reaching out, I'm glad that we made an instant connection through creativity.
SquareOne Pictures' Director, Chase has just finished a summer marathon of films at Black Box Theatre school.
His new imaginative strain to create a "Colours Trilogy" by having 7-13 year olds focus on Diversity thru colours such as white, red and blue has been an interesting way to spark conversation on differences.

Working on Xtine: The first shoot for Xtine was really cool because I had the chance to create something new; completely out of my imagination like the old days.

Finding Clients: Its not only hard finding clients but choosing clients as well for music promos.
